About Me

Hello! My name is Austin Huston and I am the doula and photographer of Untethered Birth. I am now a part of a trio of doulatogs at The Birth Collective PNW, check us out! I live in Enumclaw, WA with my husband and partner in life, Matt and our sons Asa (4) and Lex (2).

I started getting interested in birth work before ever having babies. I graduated from college with a BS degree in Exercise Science, knowing my interest in the human body and physiology. When I learned that birth could be more (or less) than hospitals and fear and pain, but could actually be a physiologic process that birthing people have been doing for generations, I was hooked and found my calling. Incorporating my love and fascination with the workings of the human body and my passion for supporting and empowering people, birth work is just the perfect fit.

My own pregnancy, loss, and birth experiences vary - as do all birth stories. This gives me a unique perspective on supporting others in their own births experiences. I have seen and experienced personally and professionally the benefits of medical intervention and pain medications as well as the benefits of uninterrupted, physiologic birth. I understand that one person's birth preferences may not make a positive birth story for another. I truly aim to support my clients in a way that is unique and specific to what they want and will make them feel most in control and respected throughout the process. All while keeping them informed and protecting their birth space.

Birth will change your life whether you want it to or not. My desire as a Birth Doula is to help you navigate that important time of your life as seamlessly as possible. I sincerely believe that every person should be in full control of their own birth story, untethered by social expectations, medical or personal biases, or care ungrounded in evidence. I hope to encourage autonomy while informing your decision making so that every step of your birth feels like yours. I am here to encourage, hold space, provide physical support, answer questions, offer emotional support, introduce new questions, give you resources, make your partner look like a rockstar, and remind you of your power. I am here for you every step of the way.

Schedule your consultation now! I can't wait to meet you!

When we found out we were expecting baby #3 (and potentially our last baby) I knew I wanted to document this birth with professional photography/videography. I went on a search and found a collective of local birth doulas. My family and I connected with them right away and knew they were meant to be a part of this journey. They were there for us throughout our entire pregnancy, there to answer any questions we had or to just check in and see how our family and pregnancy was going. Once labor began I quickly found out that Doula Austin would be the one on call for our birth (as I had seen her in my dreams many times). I was so unsure of where my labor was going so I reached out with hesitation but we all ultimately decided to head towards labor and delivery, and thankfully we did. Upon arriving at the hospital I quickly discovered that I was in transition, my waters had released and I was complete. This was all under 1 hour from the letting Doula Austin know and heading out to the hospital. She came flying through the door of our birth room just as I was getting ready to bring our first baby girl earthside. Austin was exactly who we needed, she came in with a calming presence and organically captured our birth in the most beautiful and timeless way. After she spent the full 2 hours after birth with us she offered to drop my placenta off at my home after 3:00am. This goes to show the love and dedication she has for her birth clients and the families she serves. She stayed in contact with us while editing our photos and video and sent a few sneak peak pictures in the meantime. When we received our final images and video we were blow away! I was in tears for days as I was able to see the full progression from the time she arrived. She heard all of our desires and made sure to incorporate them in her work. We are FOREVER grateful for this gift and can only dream of a day where we may work with her and The Birth Collective again.

"We have a secret in our culture, and it's not that birth is painful.

It's that women are strong."
